Every wine - lover on the planet is bound to fall in love
with Shiraz. This is because the Shiraz is a soulful wine, presenting a magical
bliss to the drinker because of its mesmerizing taste. Apart from the taste,
the Shiraz grape is also immensely popular because it is used in many blends
for the creation of various wines. The local Shiraz wines of Australia deliver
premium quality at low rates.
In the year 1831, a Scotsman by the name of James
Busby who is often referred to as ‘the Father of Australian viticulture’,
journeyed to Europe to collect vine cuttings from Spain and France. Syrah (the
other name of Shiraz) was one of the varieties he collected. These cuttings
were planted in Hunter Valley and Sydney Botanical Gardens. Later on, in 1839,
they were transported from Sydney to South Australia. By the 1860s, Syrah
developed and grew into an important variety in Australia.

Characteristics
of Shiraz
Different Shiraz wines have variations in taste because
of the region in which the grapes are grown. Shirazes can be medium or full
bodied and can have blackberry, pepper and plum flavours amok the complex and
strong aromas. For example, the Margaret River Shiraz is fruity and spicy,
containing flavours of cinnamon, black cherry and raspberry. These wines have good
length and complexity and are full of ripe tannins. Tastes of chocolate,
liquorice and slight bitter tones can also be experienced in Shirazes from
different regions.
Enjoy a great bottle of Shiraz with rich foods like
red meats, barbeques, pepperoni pizzas and pasta in tomato sauces and you are
definitely going to relish and remember the experience.
