Turkey Flat Cabernet Sauvignon: The Last of its Kind

Johann Frederick August Fiedler, a Silesian refugee is the genius behind the early success of Turkey Flat wines. In 1847, the first Shiraz vines were planted in the fertile alluvial soils of Australia’s valued Barossa Valley. His brother-in-law Pastor August Kavel, is considered as one of the leaders of the German winemakers’ migration to Barossa Valley. He arrived in this viticulture paradise and cultivated the first vineyards that resulted in the long and rich tradition of Barossa Valley wines.

The locality of Turkey Flat obtained its present name from the notable fowl known for the intricate patterns that can be observed in its body and tail. Like the turkey, every bottle of Turkey Flat Vineyards’ wine presents its own character that sets one apart from the other. The company is 100 percent committed not only to impress people with the wine’s flavour and taste but also to represent a great picture of Barossa Valley’s culture, its people and its rich history.

Among the best vintages that Turkey Flat has released is the 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon. Harvested from the 4 acre Black Flat, pure fresh Cabernet Sauvignon grapes were carefully fermented to create a great tasting vintage. The 2012 Turkey FlatCabernet Sauvignon is made from the last batch of its vines since 1994. A new era of Cabernet Sauvignon is expected to emerge after the previous vines suffered heavily from frost in 2007 and heat wave in 2008.

This treasure will be best remembered for its rich and lively flavours of blackcurrant and blackberry, and undertones of spices, with hints of French oak and mild tannins.
